How to do a backwash

Cleaning the filter is necessary when the pressure gauge exceeds a maximum of 110 kPa or for the best results, we recommend regular monthly backwashing.

  • Pump and skimmer baskets should be free of all debris and ensure there is enough water in the pool (top up if necessary). Water level should be a minimum of halfway up the skimmer.
  • Turn equipment OFF (via pump or chlorinator) and rotate the MPV handle to BACKWASH (all equipment must be OFF whenever the MPV handle is turned to another function).
  • Multi-port Valve (MPV) operation; to select the valve function depress the handle and always rotate clockwise.
  • Turn equipment ON and backwash until the sight-glass is clear, this may take one minute or several minutes depending on how dirty the filter is.
  • Turn equipment OFF and rotate handle to RINSE position then turn equipment ON and run for approximately one minute.
  • Turn equipment OFF again and rotate handle to normal FILTRATION position.
  • Turn equipment ON – the filter is now clean and ready to run in normal operation.
