Why you need to empty your skimmer basket

Skimmer baskets are designed to remove floating debris from the pool. The basket in your skimmer box will capture large amounts of leaves and other debris so they must be checked and emptied at least once a week (sometimes more).

Pump baskets are the second defense barrier for collecting smaller debris, and again, need to be checked and cleaned regularly.

What happens if you don’t empty your skimmer basket?

Blocked baskets reduce water flow through the pump to the filter and back to the cell. Forcing pumps to be over worked and even having your chlorinator turning itself off due to poor flow. Possibly resulting in a green pool. Full baskets may also split under pressure causing debris to clog the suction lines which in turn damages the equipment.
